Dear Diary!

Each day is a new day, with new hopes and fresh resolutions. Human memory is not reliable. He is most likely to forget things with the passage of time. Writing one’s diary fills this void of human memory and for me; the most refreshing experience is no other then jotting down my thoughts on paper.

This beautiful quote of Anne Frank has always admired me

Because paper has got more patience than people.”

I love this aspect of writing diary. In fact,It’s a human nature that he loves to communicate. He cannot live in isolation so he adopts different means of interaction. Writing diary is one of the best ways to communicate with the world. It gives you an insight of your own abilities and skills.

Scribbling one’s thoughts on paper or typing one’s ideas on word processor pave a path towards honing one’s “intrapersonal communication” skills. It’s a process of self understanding which helps to produce a record that can be used in future.

I remember watching “Lazy town”. My younger sister loved that show and I have always liked the way in which Stephanie writes her diary. She always starts by writing ” Dear Diary….”

“Dear diary…” was perhaps her own way of starting to write but for me it depicts the extent to which a person gets absorbed in the process of writing.

While, writing this post, I just grab hold of my grandfather’s diary. This diary has been written in 1979. I had never got a chance to meet him but his writing and his words are still alive in my memory.

Writing diary provides us with an opportunity to take a glimpse of our own mistakes. Anthony Doerr describes this process in his own way

“I guess whatever maturity is there may be there because I’ve been keeping a journal forever. In high school my friends would make fun of me – you’re doing your man diary again. So I was always trying to translate experience into words”

So, take a deep breath and start to write your diary. Start to scribble down your thoughts on paper. Initiate to write with honesty.

Don’t be afraid of anything and in the meantime, you’ll be amazed to discover yourself. You’ll find pleasure to untangle your thoughts and in the end you’ll find yourself flowing freely in the calm air.

Are you in a habit of keeping a notebook, journal or diary?

  1. I used to write a diary during my student days, stretching from high school to undergraduate days in college. It ran into three volumes. The interest tapered off thereafter and lost track of my diaries. It may be lying buried in the attic of family memorabilia. Thanks Madeeha, for liking one of my comments in network…best wishes… Raj.

  2. Beautifully written! My journals number many! Been keeping a journal since I was 13 , love going back and re-reading and reliving memories. Journals are priceless! I told my hubby we need a big enough firesafe box for my journals. LOL!

  3. I am having trouble posting a comment to your blog post. I will try again. I use to keep a journal and did so for years. When I started drawing I sort of got away from it and I quit completely when I started blogging. I enjoyed reading your post. πŸ™‚ ((Hugs!!))

Well said- “Paper has got more patient than people.” I am keeping a diary (secret one) and jotting down all my up’s and down’s of life… Mostly… Whenever I get angry with someone, I scold them on my paper πŸ˜‰ That way, both of us feel, relieved πŸ˜‰ True, my Diary is my best friend (company).
